Which province should you choose to study?

There are plenty of options to choose from if you are looking for education in Canada. Some people like the bustling city and may apply to study in Toronto or Vancouver. Others prefer a silent place with a sea view and may apply to a school in Atlantic Canada. It is completely your decision to choose a particular province for study. Still, we can help you in your decision-making by guiding you to the right option for you.

In the below article, you will find a review of provinces that offer immigration benefits to international students. Still, you might want to check other options to apply for study as well. Which one of the schools are best for you? Which courses will help you to land the best job? Always ensure that you do the proper research to decide on a province.

Settle in Canada after studies

Generally, when students spend many years studying in Canada, they fall in love with the country and want to stay permanently. Fortunately, Canada wants to keep students here as well! For this, the country offers many immigration programs to international students.

The maximum number of students who are targeting PNPs requires a valid PGWP (post-graduation work permit). The eligibility for PGWP is a completed study program from an accredited university of at least one-year duration. However, the student has only 90 days to apply for PGWP after they graduate. Thus, the student needs to act fast.

The benefit of PGWP is that you can live and work anywhere in Canada.

The best PNPs for students in provinces

A PNP is a provincially operated immigration program. Through PNP, provinces can nominate students for Canadian permanent residency.

Different provinces and territories have different PNP schemes. This is because every province has different economic and demographic needs. Below are some of the provinces with PNPs which are selected for international students who have completed their studies in that province.

Alberta Post-Graduate Worker:

You might be eligible for this scheme if you have completed your post-secondary education in Alberta. Your program must be of at least one-year duration. Also, you need to be working in Alberta at the time of application.

BC International Post-Graduate Category:

If you have done a doctoral degree or a master’s degree from an authorized institution in British Columbia, you can apply directly without any need for a job offer through this stream.

Ontario Masters & Ph.D. Graduates:

If you have done a doctoral degree or a master’s degree from an authorized institution in Ontario, you can apply for provincial nomination through this stream. You need to be aware of Ontario having limited approvals for these streams, so you need to pay a close look regarding their updates.

Atlantic Provinces:

In the Atlantic provinces of Canada, a new process is implemented. The new process of study to stay programs. Such programs are helping international students very much. From Canadian studies to giving them career support, training and networking options. PNP streams are their own for most of these provinces. They are perfectly designed to help students get permanent residency in Canada.

Other Options

Bear in mind that PNPs are not the only ways to become a permanent resident in Canada. Also, check out for programs with the Express Entry system.
